The guidelines for fighting laziness are as follows:
- Try to always reward yourself for unpleasant work that you nevertheless could complete. The reward can be anything: a bar of chocolate, going to a movie house, etc. The larger the amount of work done, the more attractive the prize should be. You can reward yourself with different things and in different ways, so that the rewards don’t pall. Gradually, your brain will form the connection “work – incentive”, and it’s very possible that in the future you will need no chocolate anymore:-);
- Always start with the most difficult and unpleasant work. In the morning, when you are fresh and energetic, do what you want to do least of all. Don’t delude yourself thinking that you had better start with something easy, thereby organizing yourself, and only then begin to do the most difficult part. Start with accomplishing the hardest tasks; otherwise, you will waste the whole day occupying yourself with little things and won’t manage to do anything substantial;

- Plan your day. It is a very efficient method. The more scrupulous the planning, the more things you will be able to get done. Write the plan ahead of time, in the evening, so that in the morning you have a complete, ready to use task list at hand. Why create your plan of the day overnight? Because, first, in the evening, you have enough time to remember all the things you will have to do. And, second, in the morning you will definitely find some excuse and won’t include a couple of tasks in your do-to list. When planning, remember that doctors recommend to alternate mental work with physical one. And, of course, don’t forget to take time off now and then;
- You can engage in competition with your friends – for example, who will be the first to write the diploma work? Without this competition, you may be too lazy to read the lecture notes, but when you compete with somebody, you will want to prove that you are the best or at least not the worst one. There’s nothing like competitiveness to fight laziness;
- Clean up your desk. More often than not, heaps of unnecessary papers on the desk prevent one from gathering one’s thoughts. Doing this cleanup, you will at the same time dispose yourself for work to be done. You can even clean your whole room – staying in a tidy room makes one feel more energetic (believe it or not).
