How To Stop Negative Thoughts

Negative thoughts really spoil our life. In this article, you will find some useful information on fighting negative thinking. At the end of the article, I will introduce to you a tool that will make solving the problem of those nasty thoughts much easier.

So, here are some tips on how to stop negative thoughts:

-    Use positive anchors. Control the flow of your thoughts. It will allow you to instantly stop negative thoughts. When a negative thought starts arising in your head, take measures immediately! Refrain from any analysis of the thought and, as soon as possible, substitute a positive flow of thoughts for the negative one. To do it, you should use so called positive anchors – or, put it simply, some pleasant, joyful memories. Try to recall a laughable incident of your life, or a funny story – anything that triggers in you positive emotions (it would be best if it elicits a smile). You can also turn on some music you like (but, of course, it shouldn’t be sad!) This is an efficient technique, I can say it from my own experience;

-    Make a mountain out of a molehill. The technique is as follows: you should exaggerate your negative thoughts carrying them to the point of absurdity. This method can be used if you didn’t manage to stop your bad thoughts and negative emotions right away. Use your fantasy to overblow those thoughts to the extent that they seem to you ridiculous, stupid, and absurd!

-    Avoid the words “not” and “don’t”. Perhaps, you have already heard that our mind (here, I mean the subconscious one) doesn’t understand negatives. So, when it receives a directive containing “not”, “don’t”, or similar words, it does JUST THE OPPOSITE. For example, when one says to oneself “I won’t be afraid”, one’s fear becomes more intense. Therefore, try not to use negatives. At the beginning, it will be difficult, but be persistent. Instead of “I won’t fail”, say “I will succeed”, instead of “I won’t give up”, say “I will fight to the end”. Can you feel the difference? Such wording without negatives is much more encouraging and motivating;

-    Try not to socialize with people whose thinking is negative. If it is impossible, and you must communicate with them, limit this communication to conversations on business matters;

-    Lead an active life. Do exercises during a lunch break and on the weekend. Spend in the fresh air not less than two hours a day;

-    Try this breathing and visualization technique: sit down in a comfortable position, close your eyes, and relax. Deeply inhale and exhale a couple of times. Then visualize your negative thoughts as a dark nubbin in your chest. As you exhale, imagine that this nubbin is breathed out together with the air. Having breathed out your bad thoughts, surround them with white light and keep them in this cocoon until they disappear.

That’s it. I hope the above info on how to stop negative thoughts proves useful for you, my dear reader.
