The guidelines for getting patient are below:
- Learn to break down a big goal into smaller ones and to progress gradually not trying to hasten the process. There’s a caveat here: you should pursue those small goals with no less effort and persistence than the global one;

- Don’t give up after the very first failed attempt. Not without reason is it said that patience of an angel requires devilish effort. Don’t give way to despair after an unsuccessful call to a potential customer. Don’t believe it’s something wrong with you if you didn’t get hired. Don’t think that your ex was right when he/she yelled that you are such a bitch/bastard. Try once more. And, if it’s necessary, try again, and then again and again. There can be only one signal for you to stop – when the goal that had justified all those endless attempts ceased to interest you (and you have a new one). Otherwise, you should try hard until you reach the goal set;
- If you do something, make sure you do it so that the result is excellent. To assess how far you are from an ideal result, you can stop and look at what you are doing from the outside – critically, with no concessions, as if you were assessing some other person’s work. In this case, your “super-ego” (your internalized parent) comes into play and starts controlling you. It either accepts the work you’ve done or rejects it thereby helping you perform it better;
- You should also learn to wait. To do it, allow yourself to wait without worrying. Don’t try to anticipate events; don’t imagine endlessly how your dreams will come true. Waiting without feeling that you are waiting for something is the highest form of the art of patience. Everything comes in due time if you know how to wait;
- Drink less coffee, tea, cola; eat less chocolate. They all contain caffeine that can cause irritability;
- Try to remove constant sources of anger. If, for example, your partner always forgets to close the tube of toothpaste and you get mad about it, buy an upright tube with a dispenser – it has no cover;
- Put up with the fact that you are not always right, that your decision is not always the best one, and that there can be other solutions. If you learn to do it, this will greatly help you spare your nerves.
