Here are some guidelines for becoming more organized:
- You should REALLY want it. To change your life, you should have a strong desire to do it – to put an end to your coming late, to your laziness, procrastination, etc. You should be firmly resolute to achieve it. It all may seem evident; still, lots of people try to become more organized lacking sufficient motivation; small wonder that they fail. So, remember: being determined (and, hence, persistent) is crucial;

- Always put everything in its place. So that your desk and your room don’t be messy, you should, first of all, decide where the right place for each thing is. More often than not, we lose something because it doesn’t have its specific, assigned, own place. When everything is in its place, it will be much easier for you to right you room. So, determine what to put where (you can even use several boxes with an inscription on each one like “Cosmetics”, “Papers”, and so on);
- Have duplicates of all your documents. Many people have duplicate keys that they give for safekeeping to their parents or friends. If they lose their keys, they, nevertheless, will be able to get into their house/apartment. Now, I recommend you to have duplicates of all your important documents – just like people have duplicate keys. If you have your documents in electronic form only, you may lose them after a computer breakdown. Another way of securing yourself from losing your data is getting an external hard drive;
- Our brains forget, paper doesn’t. If you are afraid you can forget something, then just write down – everything and always. Although psychologists say that we don’t use the full potential of our memory because we rely on writing down… Well, let them say what they please. The main thing is you won’t have to ransack your memory for the password to access your online store account or for some phone number. All you will have to do is open the necessary file or your notebook – and you will get the info;
- Plan! Plan everything, not only work, but also leisure activities. All your plans should be made in written form. And, of course, if you planned something, then you MUST do everything you can to accomplish it. Remember: if you want to achieve something, you will have to work hard. And even if you don’t manage to do what you planned the way you planned it and can cope with the task only partially, you still will do more than you would if you made no plan;
- Separate work from recreation. At the workplace, work at full capacity so that you don’t have to take work home; at leisure, have a rest and don’t think about work. Thus, your life will be not only more ordered, but also more harmonious.
