As far as the guidelines, here they are:
- Knowledge is power. If you are afraid of something, do your research and learn as much as possible to get wise. Be curious and apply your recently acquired knowledge. Here is an example: formerly, I was afraid to travel by air. To overcome this fear, I started studying airplane aerodynamics (the science of how aircraft fly). I understood then that, even under rather rough conditions, planes still could fly;

- Value what you can control. A lot of fears are based on something that cannot be controlled, on something that can be changed only by God. So, instead of worrying over uncontrollable things, resolve yourself to the fact and value what you can control, value your ability to exert your free will. And, whatever you do, don’t look back and don’t be afraid of something that happened in the past. What is finished is done. Move on and live in the present;
- Live with pleasure. Even with a limited budget, one can find a pastime one is passionate about, be it gardening, reading, hiking, watching movies, or something else. Whatever your passion, engage in it with pleasure, and when you are in the grip of fear, turn to it. A hobby can be a great help in forgetting about fear and in taking one’s mind off other problems;
- Draw strength from nature. Any sunset, any lake, any brook is amazingly beautiful. So are majestic, snow-covered mountains and, by and large, any natural phenomenon. Escape to nature’s lap and enjoy birdsong, ripples on the water surface, and fresh air. You will feel much better. Doing it regularly, you will significantly improve your emotional health;
- Surround yourself with love. It is much easier to cope with fear and everyday stress when you have somebody with whom you can share your emotional problems near you. Everyone needs to be hugged and to hug from time to time. Don’t underestimate the wonderful effect of caress on emotional state;
- Get yourself a pet. A great thing about pets, especially dogs and cats, is they wholeheartedly love you. They feel your bad mood and your fear and will cuddle up to you at just the right time. They will lick tears off of your face when you feel sad and will keep you company when you are lonely;
- Exercise and stay physically healthy. Having a strong and healthy organism does make a difference in terms of emotional state. Those who are physically healthy tend to think positive.
